GLOBAL CHALLENGES

Give Students Problems Worth Solving.

Give students real-world problems to explore through LBSC Global Challenges, developing critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and practical problem-solving.
The most powerful learning does not always begin with an answer. Sometimes it begins with a difficult question. LBSC Global Challenges give students opportunities to explore real-world problems, work with others, develop ideas and communicate their responses.

THE IDEA

Learning Changes When the Problem Is Real.

A textbook can explain a problem. A challenge asks a student what they would do about it.

Global Challenges place students in situations where there may not be one obvious answer.

They must investigate. Question assumptions. Consider different perspectives. Develop ideas. Make decisions. Defend their thinking.

EXAMPLES – Questions Worth Exploring:

FUTURE CITY – What should a city look like in 2040?

Students consider transport, housing, technology, sustainability, public space and quality of life.

AI & SOCIETY – How should society respond to increasingly capable artificial intelligence?

Students examine opportunity, risk, ethics, education and the future of work.

GLOBAL ENTERPRISE – Can you create value while solving a real problem?

Students explore customers, resources, business models, impact and execution.

FUTURE OF WORK – What will young people need to thrive in the changing world of work?

Students examine technology, skills, entrepreneurship, employment and adaptability.

Students think, investigate, create, Present.

Understand

Explore the problem and its context.

Question

Identify assumptions and competing perspectives.

Research

Find and evaluate relevant information.

Collaborate

Work with peers and consider different approaches.

Create

Develop their own response.

Present

Explain and defend their thinking.

WHY THIS MATTERS.

The World Rarely Gives You a Perfect Question.

Real life requires people to work with incomplete information.

Problems overlap.

Priorities conflict.

Solutions have consequences.

Global Challenges give young people a safe environment in which to practise those capabilities.

They learn that good thinking is not simply knowing the right answer.

It is knowing how to approach a difficult question.

Simple for Schools. Meaningful for Students.

01

02

PREPARE
Students receive pairing, project details and all preparation they need.

03

PARTICIPATE
Students meet virtually, discuss, collaborate and solve problems.

04

CREATE

05

REFLECT
Students consider what they learned from the experience and from one another.

GLOBAL BY DESIGN.

GLOBAL BY DESIGN

A challenge can become more powerful when students encounter perspectives from other schools and countries.

The same problem can look very different from Lagos, Nairobi, London, Accra or Cape Town.

That difference is part of the learning.

Your classroom can be bigger than your school.

Connect your students to a wider world of learning.
